Urge Carmakers to Discard our Data

A recent ruling from the appeals court ruled that carmakers can store users’ data and share it. The only exception? If the sharing of information causes damages or injury.

To make matters worse, not only are carmakers storing our information, they have recently admitted they may be selling it too.

Drivers reserve the right to data privacy, especially in their cars. With these new findings, we have to wonder why there are no protections in place. Information collected can range from what kind of music you listen to all the way to your morning coffee order.

“Cars seem to have really flown under the privacy radar and I’m really hoping that we can help remedy that because they are truly awful,” said Jen Caltrider, ‘Privacy Not Included’ research lead.

“Cars have microphones and people have all kinds of sensitive conversations in them. Cars have cameras that face inward and outward. Unless they opt for a used, pre-digital model, car buyers just don’t have a lot of options,” she added.

We agree. Our private data should be protected.
