Tell the Supreme Court: Defend Domestic Violence Victims

The Supreme Court will soon decide the fate of a law banning people who are subject to a domestic violence restraining order from owning a gun.

Studies show that women are five times more likely to die from domestic violence if a gun is present. The Supreme Court has the opportunity to protect women and domestic violence victims, and they must do so.

“It’s common sense: Domestic abusers should not have guns,” said Esta Soler, president of Futures without Violence, a group that advocates for ending domestic violence. “When guns and domestic violence mix, women and children die.”

Justices have expressed previous support of such protection. But time will tell how they will rule in this case.

After witnessing the deadliest mass shooting of the year, Americans will look to the Supreme Court for reassurance that we can prevent horrific acts of gun violence.
