Tell Republicans: Denounce Trump’s Racist Comments

On July 31, Donald Trump spoke at the National Association of Black Journalists conference. Predictably, he made a series of racist and totally inappropriate remarks.

Over the course of only a half hour, he lashed out at the moderator of the event, vowed to pardon Jan. 6 defendants, and yes — questioned VP Kamala Harris’ race.

Now, The Hill reports that many Republican officials feel “uncomfortable” and are “embarrassed” by Trump’s remarks. That’s not good enough. They need to make strong public statements making it clear that they disagree with Trump’s ignorant and hateful views.

When Trump was asked if he thought it was acceptable for his Republican colleagues to label Harris as the “DEI hire,” he attacked her identity.

“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago whens he happened to turn Black and now, she wants to be known as Black,” Trump said. “So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”

Trump’s comments were inappropriate, racist, and ignorant.
