Tell Katie Porter: Stop Selling Out Your Donors

Congresswoman Katie Porter has developed a reputation for being a strong consumer advocate who sticks up for the American people and fights back against unscrupulous corporations.

That's why it's so disappointing that, according to a new report in Politico, her campaign for U.S. Senate is betraying the trust of her donors by selling their contact information to other campaigns.

When someone donates to a political campaign, they do so because they support that candidate – not because they want to have their contact information sold countless other campaigns who will then bombard them with spam emails and texts.

Sign the petition urging Katie Porter for Senate to reverse course and cancel the sale of its donor contact information.

According to Politico, Porter's campaign is "charging $.65 per donor and $.13 for nondonors on the list."

That's right – if you donated to Katie Porter for Senate, the campaign is willing to sell you out for as little as 65 cents.

Sadly, not only is Katie Porter for Senate selling its supporters’ contact info without their knowledge or consent, it is actively lying to them about the fact their contact info will be sold. 

The "Terms of Service and Privacy Policy" link on the campaign's website specifies in all caps that they "do not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease or otherwise transfer for profit any phone umbers or personal information collected or received through the program to any third party."

If a corporation engaged in the exact same behavior – selling its customers contact data after explicitly promising not to – Congresswoman Katie Porter would rightfully take them to task.

Donors to political campaigns deserve better than to have their phone numbers and email addresses sold without their knowledge or permission. Add your name to the petition urging Katie Porter for Senate to reverse this unfortunate decision.
