Tell Congress: Protect Abortion For High-Risk Pregnancies

A high-risk pregnancy should mean immediate medical care. Under Donald Trump’s abortion bans, it means waiting — and sometimes dying.

ProPublica has exposed what’s happening inside hospitals right now. Pregnant patients with dangerous complications are being sent home while bleeding or in severe pain because doctors fear prosecution. They’re told to come back only if their condition gets worse. Some do — with sepsis, organ failure, or infections so advanced they nearly die. These were emergencies doctors knew how to treat, but weren’t allowed to.

Congress can stop this now. Lawmakers must pass federal protections guaranteeing abortion access when a pregnancy threatens a patient’s life or health — so doctors can act before emergencies spiral out of control.

Tell Congress: “Protect abortion for high-risk pregnancies. Trust doctors. Save lives. Pass legislation to ensure pregnant people in every state get the care they need and deserve.”

Research now confirms the dangers. Abortion bans are linked to sharp increases in sepsis, infant death, and maternal mortality. Pregnancy is already far more dangerous than abortion — especially for people with heart disease, kidney failure, lupus, severe hypertension, or other chronic conditions. Forcing them to continue high-risk pregnancies is reckless and deadly.

These bans don’t protect life. They endanger it. They turn wanted pregnancies into medical crises and force families to watch loved ones suffer while doctors wait.

This is the reality of abortion bans. Medical judgment is replaced by legal fear. Life-saving care is delayed until patients are “sick enough” to qualify under vague laws written by politicians, not doctors. And Congress must act.

Stop unnecessary deaths caused by abortion bans. Add your name to demand Congress ensure pregnant people can still access abortion to protect their lives.

The petition to Congress reads: “Protect abortion for high-risk pregnancies. Trust doctors. Save lives. Pass legislation to ensure pregnant people in every state get the care they need and deserve.”
