High speed rail is long overdue in the United States. But thankfully, that is about to change: The Department of Transportation just announced more than $6 billion in grant funding for high-speed rail projects. 

Projects aimed to serve lines between LA and Las Vegas as well as LA and San Francisco were just awarded over $3 billion each. These railways can transport passengers faster, reaching at least 125 mph.

With the United States behind the curve on adapting high speed rail, public support is growing for this technology. A survey from the University of California Berkeley found 56% of voters supported the in-state high speed rail project. 

“From a mobility, environmental and economic perspective, this project is a no-brainer,” said Brian P. Kelly, CEO of the California High-Speed Rail Authority. 

Having an accessible high speed rail system would revolutionize commercial and economic activity, while helping curb climate change. By getting people out of cars and into trains, it's a great way to reduce emissions.
