No Congressional Pay During Government Shutdowns

House Republicans, led by Kevin McCarthy, nearly shut down the federal government at the end of September.

If they had done so, up to four million federal workers would have suddenly lost their paychecks for an indefinite period of time.

But not members of Congress. They'd continue to get paid. Thankfully, Democratic Rep. Angie Craig is trying to fix that.

She just introduced a bill called the My Constituents Cannot Afford Rebellious Tantrums, Handle Your Shutdown Act – also known as the "MCCARTHY Shutdown Act" – which would ensure that members of Congress don't get paid during a government shutdown either.

"It's ridiculous that we still get paid while folks like TSA workers are asked to work without a paycheck," Rep. Craig noted when introducing the bill.
