Demand Accountability for Financial Privacy Violations

Congressional Democrats just reported that three large tax preparation firms –  H&R Block, TaxAct and TaxSlayer – shared “extraordinarily sensitive" data about tens of millions of taxpayers with Facebook parent company meta over the past two years.

The data shared included income sources, taxes owed, names of dependents, and more. It was reportedly used to train Meta's algorithms and target advertisements to the individuals whose privacy was violated.

The Congressional Democrats, who are now calling for the IRS, Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission to investigate, called the data sharing program “a shocking breach of taxpayer privacy by tax prep companies and by Big Tech firms.”
