Congratulate Portland Teachers on Successful Strike

Teachers in Portland, Oregon and their supporters are celebrating after the local teachers union reached a deal with the school district.

The strike lasted more than three weeks, demanding new terms after the previous contract expired in June.

The tentative deal includes cost of living adjustments, mental healthcare for students, reduced class sizes, and overall improved working and learning conditions.

“[This] is a watershed moment for Portland students, families, and educators,” said PAT president Angela Bonilla. “Educators walked picket lines alongside families, students, and allies — and because of that, our schools are getting the added investment they need.”

This is just the latest win for workers demanding improved working conditions across the country. We hope this inspires other educators to stand up for the needs of schools, students, and themselves.
