Close the Revolving Door at the IRS

According to a troubling new inspector general report, between 2017 and 2021, 15% of IRS employees received income from a large accounting firm or large corporation before joining the IRS, during their time at there, or after leaving the agency.

That's why Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Pramila Jayapal are calling on the IRS to address the revolving door between the IRS and giant accounting firms.

“We believe additional action is necessary and have introduced legislation to stop big corporations from manipulating the government and the American tax system with revolving-door scheme," the lawmakers wrote in a letter to IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel.

"Even without new legislation," they pointed out, "the IRS has the power to address conflict-of interest issues at the agency."
