Cancel All "School Lunch Debt"

Millions of kids around the United States can't afford to pay for school lunch.

In 2020, Congress passed legislation to address this by providing free school lunch and breakfast to tens of millions of children from low-income families, but last year, Republicans insisted on letting the policy expire.

That's why a group of Democratic Senators and members of Congress just introduced the School Lunch Debt Cancellation Act to ensure that families who can't afford to pay for school lunch don't go into debt as a result.

"It's time to come together and stop playing political games with Americans' access to food," said Senator John Fetterman, one of the bill's sponsors. "September is Hunger Action Month and I'm proud to be introducing this bill to help working families now, while we work to move our other priorities to combat food insecurity in our nation," he added.
