Billionaires who Bribed the Supreme Court Must Testify

ProPublica has published several blockbuster stories this year outlining corruption on the Supreme Court. The stories detail luxury gifts and expensive vacations wealthy conservatives Harlan Crow, Leonard Leo and Paul Singer have secretly given to Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito without proper disclosures.

Progressive activists and anti-corruption groups have been calling for the Justices' impeachment – or at least a binding code of conduct for Supreme Court Justices – ever since.

Last year, the Supreme Court adopted a code of ethics, but its lack of an enforcement mechanism has led most observers to conclude that it is far from sufficient to deal with the apparent corruption within our nation's highest court.

That's why 14 progressive advocacy groups are calling on Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena the billionaires and force to them to face questions under oath about what exactly they hoped to accomplish by giving expensive gifts to supposedly objective Supreme Court Justices.

In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin, the groups wrote that "we must learn the full scope of these hidden efforts to improperly influence the Supreme Court and the extent of Justices Thomas' and Alito's ethical wrongdoings.
