Behind closed doors, Trump officials are keeping his $1.776 billion slush fund alive.
Publicly, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Congress the administration was “not moving forward” with the so-called Anti-Weaponization Fund. But when lawmakers asked him to put that promise in writing, he refused.
Now The Atlantic reports the payout idea has not actually been scrapped. Justice Department officials and people close to the White House have reportedly told allies they are still exploring ways to revive parts of the fund or use alternative arrangements to compensate Trump loyalists.
It's time for Congress to demand the Department of Justice kill Trump's slush fund for good.
This is a real and continuing threat. Trump himself recently refused to say the payout effort was abandoned and called the fund a “great idea.”
The reported payouts could benefit Trump loyalists, including January 6 defendants and people close to the president.
Congress must force Blanche to put it in writing: the fund is permanently terminated, no replacement scheme will be created, and not one taxpayer dollar will be used to pay off Trump’s allies.
Add your name now and demand Congress kill Trump’s slush fund for good.
Thanks for everything you do.
